Dhanush's
character is a poor guy in the film who belongs to a very remote village and is
in need of a job.
The film in detail revolves around the South Indian fishing community that goes through terrible hardships in countries like Nigeria, Sudan, Libya which borrow them as labor.
While Dhanush will be seen playing the role of 'Mariyaan' in the movie,
Parvathi Menon will play the character of 'Panimalar'
Director Bharat Bala, was inspired by the 2008 French
Liberian film 'Johnny Mad Dog', which starred a real life group of LURD child
soldiers and subsequently chose to retain them as well as the cinematographer
of that film, MarcKoninckx, as a part of 'Mariyaan'. A R Rahman has scored the background music for the Tamil
film. An emotional number named 'Vizhithidu Nenje' has been crooned by the
music composer himself.
